Someone has delivered a skinned corpse to the Indian casino parking lot. Stormi Rose, a "super cop," not only must solve who did this vicious murder but she must also traverse the superstitions and traditions of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe--not an easy task. (For those who don't know what a "super cop" is, it's a law enforcement officer who is sworn into office as a regular peace officer for the state they work in, plus they are also sworn-in as a federal officer so they can enforce the laws on an Indian reservation.)

New to the casino gaming world, Stormi must learn everything from how slot machines work to how to catch card sharks-- all this while keeping her own past a secret.

She wants to impress her boss, Ironcloud, (with whom she'd like to be more than just friends) but her coworkers don't like the fact that she's a "white woman arresting Indians" and so they sabotage her. Throw into the hand she's been dealt the fact that there's a casino heist in the making and life gets very complicated for Stormi Rose. To make matters worse, there's a Blood Moon on the horizon. . .

Blood Moon The Casino Murders edition by Shannon Richardson Romance eBooks

If you like complex, well-written mysteries with strong female characters and a strong and compassionate male lead, you will definitely like this one by best-selling Shannon Richardson ("Deadly Deception"). The new face and the only woman on the team in rural on the Ute Reservation in Ignacio, Colorado, Stormi Rose has a lot to overcome, including her feelings for her boss, Westin Ironcloud.

To complicate matters further, she is the only non-Indian "super-cop" on the team, which means she not only works for Westin Ironcloud, she works for the tribal Division of Gaming, a white woman arresting Indians at the tribe's casino.

And then people begin to die. Who is killing them, and why? There are several people who make good candidates; it's finding the culprit that's the hard part. And finding him (or her) is Stormi's job.

I hope "Blood Moon" is only the first of a series of novels about Stormi Rose and her boss Westin Ironcloud. I like the people, the setting, and Shannon Richardson's writing.

Blood Moon The Casino Murders edition by Shannon Richardson Romance eBooks Reviews

Stirring wheel? in a car? The story was kinda fun but get an editor who knows English and can spell.
Was a good read and characters interesting but not good enough to remember when asked for this review. I liked it because I knew the area it was about
The plot was very easy to follow and was enjoyable reading. Wish there were more books in a series The character was very likable.
This book by Richardson was sufficiently good (Probably 3and 1/2 stars) that I bought her "The Yellow Rose of Texas" (a mistake). A murder mystery, it is well written and at times entices the reader to read on compulsively. I recommend it for a relaxing Saturday evenings reading! It is light.
Protagonist Stormi Rose escapes from her mobster husband and hides out as a police officer on the Southern Ute reservation in Colorado. As an Anglo, she is ignorant of Ute customs and finds herself committing faux pas after faux pas. Fortunately, the Utes are very forgiving. She falls in love with her boss and spends most of her time making eyes at him. With all the ogling going back and forth, willing suspension of disbelief comes into play here.

Stormy finds herself afloat in murder and mayhem with enough blood and guts--both human and animal--to shake the foundations of the little town of Ignacio, Colorado.
Enter the mobster husband and a few of his henchmen, and the poor damsel almost checks into the hereafter in several most unpleasant ways.

Unfortunately, the plot is too fantastic and Stormi too unbelievable a character to make the whole thing to work, especially when it comes to her understanding of Ute culture. Referring to ceremonial dress as "costumes," not regalia, and to a woman's "outfit"(sounds like she's gone shopping at the nearest mall) in reference to her dress, never quite getting the handshake down, among other things, demonstrate a great divide between the two cultures. I was disappointed, because I look forward to learning about Native American beliefs and customs. Tony Hillerman teaches the reader about the Navajo belief system by seamlessly incorporating it into both his plots and characters. For Richardson it's an afterthought. Stormi doesn't quite get it.

Another major problem is the poor editing. Not only were there errors in grammar and mechanics, there were many instances of wrong and poor word choice, awkward sentence structure, and so on, further obscuring an already shaky plot. The prose is pedantic, and there is little figurative language. The name Stormi Rose alone is enough prevent the reader from taking this story seriously. The rationale for using it doesn't compensate for its obviously questionable connotations. It would be a better name for a fallen woman in another profession--a really old one. In all, it's a rather unsophisticated attempt to play at being a writer with predictable results.
