Forsaken By the Others An HW Investigations Novel Jess Haines 9781420124033 Books

I really loved this book. It was a lot more of an "adventure" and had a lot more going on than the previous books, so to speak. The characters just keep getting better and better. There were a few typos, but nothing too distracting. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. I will say, in this case, that this book does end on a sort of a cliffhanger, which I assume will lead directly into book 6. If you liked the previous books in the series, I say you should give this one a shot because I don't think you'll be disappointed. Have at it! I can't wait to read the next one.

Forsaken By the Others An HW Investigations Novel Jess Haines 9781420124033 Books Reviews

This is something of a mess that is drama filled. I am absolutely in love with the story. It is thrilling and seductive to bad shiarra keeps messing up. But hey it makes for a great story
Wow this book has had me on the edge of my seat, for the whole time I was reading it. The ending was so unexpected. I really really can't wait to read the next book in this series. I hope it comes out soon.
I enjoyed the book and loved the cliffhanger ending. Zombies aren't my thing; however, it did give the book and interesting twist. Starting the sixth book right now!
*****SUBTLE SPOILER****

I personally havn't read a book with a cliffhanger of an ending in so long that it ushered an exasperated "COME ON!" and a subsequent "F--- you Max!!!" I have to say that I havn't felt this psyched and drawn in about a protagonist in quite some time. I was starting to despair that I wouldn't find a new series along the same genre of the Anita Blake. The H&W Investigations series is delightful and REFRESHING. By all means catch the first few books first before this book. God I despise Max!!!! And if I could I'd slap Royce for blindly sending Shia into greater harms way. JH needs to have written the next book like yesterday! I'm jonesing for the next one!!!
First, this book is a disappointment. It's not horrible...but it's far less of a good read than the first books in the series. To begin with, it starts in the middle, continuing exactly where the last book left off. It's a jarring beginning, but makes some sense. However, the rest of the book has some major flaws that seriously wrecked my enjoyment. **SPOILER ALERT** First, the coincidences(meeting old friends who help them out??) and smart girls running about in circles and failing to do simple things like call home to update, or buy a new phone to call with, or to just leave regardless of Royce's instructions to stay put. And failing to mention the master of SF is there, who Royce would know was sired by you-know-who?? Royce is painted as a patsy who knows nothing about what is going on beyond his area (not exactly how he was shown in previous books) and the dynamic between him and Shia is such that you'd expect him to tell her to get away and to heck with the political ramifications because (you'd think) he would care more for her safety. And, lastly, I object strongly to the cliff-hangar ending.

Again, I like the series, but this book was rushed, full of plot holes and uncharacteristically dull-witted moves by our heroine. I didn't like it for the bad plotting, although the writing itself maintains great readability.
I quite liked the first few books, with Shiarra being a pure human and no special powers. Then things happen and she just seems to keep more and more confusing, more like a damsel in distress, running into all sorts of trouble without a thought for herself or anyone. The whole story plot seemed jumbled and all over the place.

In this book, it was painful to watch Shiarra and Sara basically begging. Actually, correct that, Shiarra was begging endlessly the last few books also.

I literally skipped through the pages (hurrah for kindle for PC) and got to the ending which was more interesting. I really hope the next book would give some light on the whole scenario and perhaps be less messy with some conclusions and less whining and angst.
Mehh, no real advancement in the characters, just a gratuitous storyline. Some parts are really good, but dragged out longer than they need to be. Also, ends right in the middle, before a conclusion to the current plot lines- irritating, and it means I'm taking my money elsewhere instead of continuing with the series. It's frustrating to read all the way through a book to not have any type of ending. While the story in LA is interesting, lots of characters are introduced but not explored. Hated that. Cutting the story off where it was? Completely turned me off to reading more- if the author does it once, she'll probably continue to do it for future books. Its the downside with so many characters and too many plot threads- they can't be explored and developed within the 350 or so pages. Sigh- too bad, Haines is a great writer and I've enjoyed the series until now, but if I wanted to be teased, I would have purchased a Rubik's cube, not a novel.
