Homelessness has always been an intrigue for me. Perhaps it is because I have always been so happy that I have a home, that it is hard to imagine not having the comforts of my own bed. I also know that life can be pretty harsh, and if it weren't for the fabulous family and my faith, that I grew up in, who knows, I as well could have found myself in the streets. This is the first book of Everett Peacock's that I have read, but it won't be the last. I had to read this book from start to finish in one sitting without putting it down. It is a sweet story, and I feel very real. I had to know how it ended. I live in Hawaii, and I do remember Mango Man. I never knew him, but saw him. He was an interesting looking character and definitely knew how to survive in the streets. Everett's visuals were so descriptive, I felt like I was right there in Waikiki and Waimanalo and really liked how he grasped the local culture. I read through it so fast because I wanted to find out the ending, that I am now going to reread it again and slow down and enjoy.Tags : A Paradise of One - Kindle edition by Everett Peacock. A Paradise of One edition by Everett Peacock Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I always enjoy reading Evertt Peacock and his interesting stories. His stories are always very different from anyone else and always keeps your interest. Having lived in Hawaii for 40 years I enjoy reading about places I know and have been to. This too makes Peacock's book so interesting.
Such a bittersweet read for me. The beautifully descriptive writing always refreshes memories of visits to Hawaii. This visit, however, reminds me that we are all getting old. It also reminds me to make the most of it, and to hope for an angel to help me along the journey. Great book! Keep writing Mr. Peacock, till the bubbles no longer rise.
This story takes you to the underbelly of the tourist Mecca of Waikiki, where two unlikely characters become entangled, ultimately saving themselves, and each other. It’s very imaginative, insightful, and well written.
This book was a little different than the Parrot series(still my favorites!)
It was very good! Touching, somewhat magical and melancholy all in one! I really enjoyed it from start to finish!
Everett has done it again. A wonderful and unique look at life with outstanding characters set in beautiful Hawaii. Cowboy and Rainbow have great chemistry. The Abundants are very cool. This captivating story even has some aerospace twists. Great book!!! I highly recommend it.
Alone confused , an old man comes to life after saving the honor of a young girl . There is an underbelly to every city and town around the world , in Mr Peacock's latest novel based in the bowells of Waikiki he leads us on an adventure of discovery and realization . A young woman's discovery of her inner power and an old mans realization of eventual mortality . I lived in Hawaii for 32 years and Everett always nails the description and color of Local Island style and life . A must read for fans and new friends of Everett Peacock !
I love books set in Hawaii, I'm a senior citizen, and I've read many of Everett Peacock's books so I was anxious to read this one. I enjoyed the story very much and I knew the ending would be sad but I wish he would have expanded an epilogue to explain a few things that left me wondering. The last 10 percent of the download was filled with teasers of some of his other books most of which I've already read so I would have liked that space used to expand the ending. But all in all it was a good book that I found very interesting.
